Yahoo! Answers: If I run/jog/walk 3 miles a day every day and it burns roughly 4 How soon should I see an improvement in my weight and figure? I'm not obese, just 20 pounds over the "desired weight" for my age and height... 21 and 5'2. I weigh 140 and I have just started a new diet and exercise program this weekend. I plan to eat a very good balanced diet, avoid fast food, take multi-vitamins, and drink plenty of water and rarely any soda. I walked, then started jogging, then worked up to running for a few minutes in repitions. I burned 400 calories according to my treadmill and plan to do that every night. (This was my 2nd night.) If I stick to this how soon should I see any results? I know I won't lose the whole 20 pounds in a week because it's not magic, but I want to lose this before bikini season! Will the running/jogging/walking be good enough to help me lose weight? Thanks!! Will adding some crunches/sit-ups and some moderate weight lifting help, too? I'm so bad at this fitness stuff because I have always been super skinny and never worked out but I gained 20 pounds last summer and I hate how it is affecting my self-esteem and my mom said I should lose it while I'm still young because it is easier.
You should see an improvement after three weeks. Your body will have firmed up, you will have replaced fat with muscle, so don't expect a drastic initial weight loss. Also, start by just walking for the first week, then walk and jog the next week, adding a little more each day until you can run. This will be the hardest part, getting to running any decent distance when overweight, but I am sure you will be successful if you keep at it regularly. Also, try every second day, give your muscles a chance to rest in-between exercising. You don't want to get a sport injury or pulled muscle, because that will take 6 weeks to heal !
I find it hard to find time for me to jog and have some exercise. I have been thinking actually of being be able to loose weight but thanks to my very busy working schedule, I am left with no choice but to bear it all. But well, I would love to really do those tips that you all guys have shared here. I am to allocate time to somehow be able to have some exercise.
When I first started running, I really did not see much of a change at all. As I was so intently looking for improvement that would reward my efforts, I was disappointing when I could not see it. It was only when I stopped looking for results and just exercised just for the sake and joy of it, that I eventually surprised myself with my figure and new found endurance.
In local areas there are plenty of diet programs pursued by health center organizers in order to help those people who want to lose weight. It is very important for people to eat nutritious food, balanced diet, and do regular exercise in order to keep the body healthy and lose weight. I think it is also a matter of discipline to oneself because if you tolerate yourself eating food a lot you won't reach your goal.
